Mr. Vittorio, Tipton Middle School, will have some students demonstrate the VEX robot for competition.
A number of Board Policies have been submitted for revisions that were considered last month on First Reading. Many of these are based on new state laws. Others are to refine or clarify policies and procedures. It is recommended that the Board approve the policy changes as presented on Second Reading.
Tipton has received six (6) handheld metal detectors from the State of Indiana. To use them, the Board needs to revise policy 7440 to allow the authorization of their use. In addition, it is recommended that the Board approve the accompanying Administrative Guidelines (7440) that outline how and when the metal detectors may be used. It is recommended the the revisions to Board Policy 7440 and Administrative Guidelines 7440 be approved on First Reading.
We are required to adopt an annual policy concerning the distribution of teacher appreciation grants - Policy 3220, Teacher Appreciation Grant. A copy of that policy has been attached. This policy will be submitted to the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) along with the School Corporation’s staff performance evaluation plan. Since this policy has already been approved and no changes are being recommended the Board is asked to reaffirm its approval of this policy.
Tipton High School is recommending adding a course in the Language Arts Department - Video Games as Literature. This would be a course, based in the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts that would study how elements of classical literature and storytelling are now being told through the medium of modern interactive video games. A full proposal is included in the Board's packet. It is recommended the Board approve the new course at Tipton High School.
Mr. Skiba is requesting permission to adopt a textbook for the AP Music Theory class. These books, in the all other categories, were adopted last spring. Mr. Skiba was not here at the time to make the recommendation. The textbook, Barron's Test Preparation: AP Music Theory (ISBN 9781438076775) cost $27.99 and would be rented to students for $6.16 per class. It is recommended that this textbook and the rental fee be adopted for the AP Music Theory course.
Mr. Skiba has spent his first few months re-organizing the band area. As a result, he has found a number of items that are no longer needed. This is mostly file cabinets, but also a few pieces of musical instruments. These items are outlined on the attached inventory. It is recommended that the Board approve these items as surplus so they may be disposed of.
The following donations have been made to the schools:
It is recommended that the Board accept these donations as listed.
