  • We have been working on a new webpage the past few months.  While there is some updating yet to be done this summer, we plan to go live with the website on Monday, June 18.  The website will have the same URL: www.tcsc.k12.in.us. We received some feedback from parents on the current website so it was felt a change was needed.  We are also aware that many people use apps on their phones so having something that was cleaner and easier to use with a Mobile app was important.  With a grant from the Tipton County Foundation, we were able to make this change. (http://tiptonscsin.apptegy.us/)
  • Along with the new webpage design, there will be a Mobile app that is available through the app store.  People can go to their app store and search for Tipton, IN.
  • With this new package, School Messenger will go away.  Instead, we will be using a platform called Thrillshare to send out emergency notifications and other information to parents.  This, like School Messenger, ties into the parent contact information found in Harmony.  Parents will need to make sure that their contact information is updated in Harmony.  We will be testing Thrillshare a couple times this summer and again once school begins, followed by the monthly tests.
  • TCF Education Study.  As everyone is aware the TCF has released the Executive Summary of the Education Study they recently had completed.  We hope that everyone realizes, as was stated in the summary, this study outlines the many positive things going on within our schools; the Executive Summary focuses on the "opportunities, threats, and other needs."  For the action items, we have begun laying out actions to take (follow-up with those families that leave Tipton as to why), for some actions were started at the beginning and implemented this year (partnering with local business for interns and job shadowing as well as the WEC), for others we will continue to explore options and seek community input. Some of the actions suggested the schools cannot do alone.  In response to the Tipton County Foundation Education Study,  we will be taking this study one step further to develop a strategic plan for TCSC. We are working with IUK to host a series of meetings in the fall with our stakeholders.  They will provide input as to the direction TCSC takes in the future.  This will lead up to the external review of the corporation by the accreditation organization of AdvancED.
  • Mr. Shaver, TMS Music, received a $4000 Tipton County Foundation Grant that would bring in a music composer and compose a piece of music for the TMS Concert Band.
  • Congratulations to the Lady Blue Devils Softball Team for their amazing run in the IHSAA State Tournament, making it to the championship game of the semistate.  They earned the championship title of the Hoosier Conference, Sectional, and Regional Tournaments.

8.1 Consideration to approve the Food Service Contract renewal with Aramark for 2018-2019.

Four years ago we went through the bid process for a Food Service Provider.  This agreement was good for one year and can be renewed for up to four years. At this time it is recommended that we renew the contract with Aramark for 2018-2019.  Aramark has provided the corporation with a Food Service Director who has worked hard to implement the federal nutrition requirements and to promote the food services provided to students.  It is recommended that the Board approve the food service contract renewal with Aramark for 2018-2019.

8.2 Consideration to approve school meal prices for 2018-2019.

School meal prices have remained the same for the past two years.  This year, it is recommended that the price for both breakfast and lunch, both students and adults, be raised by five cents ($0.05) for the 2018-2019 school year.

8.3 Consideration to approve and enter into a MOU with the City of Tipton for a SRO.

We have been in discussion with the City of Tipton and have come to an agreement on a partnership to provide a School Resource Officer (SRO) for the schools effective with the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.  The Board has been provided with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the Financial Proposal to establish this partnership and get the position in place. It is recommended the Board approve the MOU and Financial Proposal for the SRO position.

8.4 Consideration to grant permission to apply for the Title I Grant.

We would like to ask permission to apply for the 2018-2019 Title I Grant. Title I funding provides additional federal resources to assist students who struggle with attaining reading and math skills. As the final report is being prepared, we are also looking ahead to next year. It is recommended that permission be granted to apply for the 2018-2019 Title I Grant.

8.5 Consideration to grant permission to apply for Indiana’s High Ability Grant.

We are preparing to submit our final report to the state’s office and at the same time, prepare for submitting our grant for the 2018-2019 school year. Typical funding has been in the area of $33,000. The actual grant will be submitted in early fall.  It is recommended that permission be granted to apply for the 2018-2019 High Ability Grant.

8.6 Consideration to approve the Surety Bonds for the Corporation Treasurer and the Deputy Treasurer.

This is the annual renewal of the Surety Bonds for Mr. Cloum and Mrs. Carter serving in their capacity with the school corporation.  The Surety Bonds are for $100,000 for each of the positions through the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company. It is recommended that permission be granted to renew the Surety Bond for the Corporation Treasurer and the Deputy Treasurer.

8.7 Consideration to approve the agreement between TCSC and Bona Vista for 2018-2019.

Bona Vista provides services for preschool children with disabilities. We have contracted with them for a number of years to provide this service. Special Education funding is used to help pay the cost for these services. It is recommended that the 2018-2019 agreement between TCSC and Bona Vista be approved to continue services for preschool children with disabilities.

8.8 Consideration to approve the agreement between TCSC and Kokomo School Corporation for Head Start services for 2018-2019.

Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages birth to 5 from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. Kokomo School Corporation serves as the Local Educational Agency (LEA) in servicing this program in Howard and Tipton Counties.  It is recommended that the 2018-2019 agreement between TCSC and Kokomo School Corporation be approved to continue Head Start services for these children.

8.9 Consideration to approve overnight/out-of-state field trip: Senior Trip 2019

Tipton High School is asking permission to participate in the Senior Trip to New York City, May 3-6, 2019.  This is a traditional trip. The request is being made early to provide sufficient time to prepare.  Participation by students is voluntary.  The final cost per student is dependent upon how many students chose to take the trip. In the past, the cost has been between $600 and $700.  It is recommended that the Board approve the Senior Trip to New York City, May 3-6, 2019.
